Sunrays
I’m a real fan of rays caused by the sun shining through clouds, falling rain or snow, haze or smoke in the sky. Although I know the science behind sunrays, when I see them I feel like I am experiencing some sort of magic.
An example. I was recently driving west along Tramway Boulevard in Albuquerque when I glanced in my rearview mirror. I immediately pulled over to the side of the road as I saw some lovely sunrays (above) among the clouds hanging over the Sandia Mountains, which lie along the eastern edge of the city.
The sunrays were produced by the early morning sunlight just cresting the mountains and passing through the low-lying clouds.
The sunrays can often transform a rather mundane scene into one that is spectacular, or at least one that is more dramatic.
Although I’ve taken photos of sunrays alone, I prefer it when there is a main subject that the sunrays are accentuating.
