Calf Canyon, Hermits Peak Fire
Looking at perhaps 200 acres of burned forest on Earth Day 2023, it was had for me to fathom the extent of the Calf Canyon, Hermits Peaks fire.
Approximately 350,000 acres were burned. It is a sobering number to contemplate.
As I looked across the valley that is home to Gallinas Creek and saw rows of burned trees (bottom image) that looked like rows of burned toothpics.
Seeing the destruction reminded me of how fragile our enviroment is, especially in the face of man's carelessness.
It reminded me, also, that with warm weather approach- ing, fire season is also upon us.
That means we all need to take care with any fires, or fireworks, we use.
Don't burn weeds or trash of windy days. Heed Red Flag warnings.
Simply use common sense
