Mirror Images
While editing some images for my “Road to Pedernal” series, I realized that by flipping a selected image horizontally and combining it with the original un-flipped image, an interesting “mirror” image could be created.
The first one I tried – Road to Pedernal -- is the image above and I thought it worked well. It’s one of those unexpected surprises I occasionally come across when I am just goofing around. The goofing around is something akin to the kaleidoscope series I’ve also added to the website.
The one below is a new one I created of a sunrise on the Chama River in Chamita, which is a short distance north of Espanola, New Mexico, worked well within this context, also.
I started playing around with some other photos that, due to their edges, I thought would match up well when also flipped and matched well and this series began.
In some of the images there is a resemblance to old stereo photos.
I think I like playing with these because I’ve always liked panoramics, which these remind me of. Panorama photos, at least for me, echo more closely what the human eye sees.
