A Cat Named Sumi
Sumi (above with my youngest daughter) was a Siamese cat who was born to a wild mother in an old Fiat at my home in Northern New Mexico. Sumi moved with my daughter to Las Cruces, NM, then back to Albuquerque when she started attending the University of New Mexico.
Sumi was an established part of the family when my oldest grandson was born. When my grandson would cry, Sumi would be the first at his cribside, seemingly saying the the rest of the family, "Who is taking care of this child?"
When my daughter's second son was born, Sumi continued with his protective duties. Making sure both boys, and the rest of the family were taken care of. He'd bring treats in that he had hunted and play games with the boys such as Legos.

He even functioned as a pillow from time to time.

At the house they currently live at, Sumi owned the cul-de-sac.
Sumi died about two years ago.
My daughters youngest son, below, says that every once in a while he feels Sumi's soul visiting.
Sumi is missed.
